The Daytona 500 dominated by a Dark Horse

The Daytona 500, the Great American Race, came to a shocking end last weekend with a classic Dark Horse victory! Michael McDowell had his first NASCAR career win in 358 starts this past Sunday at The Daytona 500!

Michael started his career at age 3 racing BMX bikes in Arizona and has been racing ever since. He moved up to Karting, a stepping stone to his future in motorsport racing when he was 8.  He then progressed through Open Wheel Racing, The Grand-Am, ARCA and then to NASCAR in 2007. Known as an aggressive and very good driver, Michael has been a consistent presence on the circuit. He’s known as a hard worker who’s put in his time with various teams over the years. His first big win is in the #34 car with Front Row Motorsports in the Daytona 500. He’s been with FRM since 2018 and this win is a huge boon to them both. Front Row Motorsports is a small team by NASCAR standards, that has been racing since 2004. The win is well deserved!

upset vs man o war

Just like Upset beating the famous Man o’ War back in the 1919 Sanford Stakes here at Saratoga Racecourse, luck was on McDowell’s side. He’s just racing with a different kind of horsepower! He was able to avoid a crash in the final lap that took out the leaders and he emerged victorious. A lot of luck, talent and being in the right place gave him this first NASCAR win in the Daytona 500 of 2021 just this past Sunday.

Upset congratulates his fellow longshots, Michael Mc Dowell and Front Row Motorsports. Welcome to our  “Dark Horse” family of unexpected and unlikely Champions.
