Description
Known as “The Graveyard of Champions” Saratoga’s tradition of the Dark Horse overcoming the odds dates back to when the aptly named Upset beat the legendary Man O’ War in the Sanford Stakes on August 13, 1919. Later other favorites fell victim to dark horses; Gallant Fox was beaten by Jim Dandy who went off with odds of 100-1, and Secretariat was overcome by Onion after winning the triple crown. In Saratoga the smart bet is always the Dark Horse.
