It’s a well know fact that The Lazy Dog Cookie Co. has been making viciously delicious and naturally nutritious treats for dogs since 2001. It’s also a well-known fact that here at Lazy Dog we have a compassion for all animals and are deeply involved in all of the charities we donate to. So, when Lazy Dog became involved with the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation partnering with horse treats to benefit their organization seemed like a great fit. Since 1983 Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation has been finding a safe haven for thousands of former racehorses. Their mission has never waivered and it is to save Thoroughbred horses no longer to compete on the racetrack from possible abuse, neglect and slaughter.
The horse pictured so debonair on the front of this package is a testament to TRF’s tireless work. His name is Forbidden Apple, he is a champion in every sense of the word. He was a globetrotting superstar in the early 2000’s and won many major stakes races. He was even named Florida horse of the year. At age 27 he now spends his days in retirement at the TRF’s Second Chances program. This is a unique and pioneering program where inmates build life skills while participating in a vocational training program as they provide supervised care to retired racehorses.
