Description
The Saratoga Springs potato chip story centers around George Crum, a cook at Moon’s Lake House, who is credited with creating the first potato chips in 1853. A dissatisfied customer sent back thick-cut fried potatoes, prompting Crum to slice them extremely thin and fry them to a crisp, resulting in what became known as Saratoga Chips. While Crum is widely credited, some accounts suggest his sister, Catherine Wicks, may have also been involved.
